Sforzesco Castle


The Museums of the Sforzesco Castle are not only the Castle's glory but also of whole city. As to say:"Ladies and gentlemen, you are to the Sfozesco Castle, a visit to one or more museums you have to do it.
The artistic collections here contained had an almost definitive arrangement between 1954 and 1963, thanks to architects Barbiano of Belgioioso, Peressutti and Rogers.

The Museum picks up one thousand two hundred years of Lombardy sculpture and not, from IV to XVI century. You can admire the magnificent Michelangelo's statue - The Rondinini Pity, the equestrian monument of Bernabò Visconti, the grave of Gaston de Foix.

The Castle's Pinacoteca (Rocchetta - Ducal Court)
Rich the collection of paintings, among which works of Antonello da Messina, Andrea Mantegna, Canaletto, Correggio, Tiepolo.

The Prehistory and Protostory Museum (Underground of the Rocchetta and Viscontea Room )
The prehistoric section is one of the most ancient section of the Archaeological Museum. The prehistoric and protostoric collections include material coming from northern Italy and describe the history of territory in the last 5000 years before Christ.
Chronologically prepared, rich materials document points of particular excellence with contexts of Bronze's age ( "palafitticola-terramaricola" culture, "Scamozzina-Monza" cultures) and of the Iron's age ( "Golasecca" culture).

Egyptian Museum (Underground of the Rocchetta and Viscontea Room )
The Egyptian collection in Milan has a notable importance for the high value of finds to didactic level, specialistic and of search.
The exposed finds offer meaningful testimonies on the funeral mores and on the daily life of ancient Egypt.
Of great interest is the "The Deads' Book ", the good preserved sarcofagis in painted wood, among which the series coming from Tebe and the mummy of a man lived 650 years before Christ.

The Musical Instruments Museum (Umberto Entrance)
The Sforzesco's Castle Museum of the Musical Instruments collect instruments realized between the XV and the XX century. Rich it is the selection of keyboard instruments, wind instruments, arc and pinch instruments.
A corpus of ethnic tools is present too.
Two rooms are dedicated to Monzino's dedonation, that includes arc and pinch instruments from XVII century to our days and a rich didatic section.

Applied Art Civic Collection (Ducal Court)
In the Ducal Rooms and in those of Rocchetta are found some most important collections of decorative arts and applied of Italy, with high-medieval ivories and glasses, manufactured articles of ceramists and sculptors, silversmith and goldsmiths, tapestrysmith and weavers, from the V to the XX century.
You can see preciosus collections of Faenza's, Urbino and Pesaro majolicas, eighteenth-century Lombard of Clerici's and Stolen ceramics and Meissen's porcelains. The famous "Tapestries of the Months Trivulzio" (XVI century) on sketch of the Bramantino and the armory can be admired.
Important and rare wooden works of Renaissance carvers and epoch's furnishings, from medieval nuptial large cases to the furniture of the May-bugs, are exposed.

Interesting to visit it is the exhibition "From it Strives him to the Design - Six centuries of history of the piece of furniture". Here you can see the evolution in the centuries of the typologies and the techniques of the furnitures.
