The development of the Milan City

After the liberation, Milan started a spectacular period of growth.
The Milaneses appeared irresistible. It was as much the desire to do and to do well. Between 1860 and 1914 the city Milan losed out notable transformations that from great village jumped the flyfor to be an European metropolis
The Duomo Place assumed a new dress worthy of a great modern town with the construction of porticos and the Gallery, as also the neighbourhood suffered amazing transformations. New buildings imposing took the place of old houses, and new paved streets

And while in Italy the fervor of political renewal handled to pass the last difficulties of the national unity, Milan conquered the peak of the classification about the industrial progress.
The great productive effort started to call, at the end of the century, people of other regions. The capital of Lombardia became a national lung absorbing the working strengths that came from the Alps to Sicily.

Milan further to have the privilege to be capital of the job, it becomes, unfortunately, also the witness of the first bloody social struggles. The days of 1898 were black and full of dead when against the strikers the troops were employed.

But also the social struggles mark the inevitable success of the progress. Milan, a few years after the 1898 tragic repressions, attracts on itself the general admiration for a new great Exposure (1906) that, with that of 1881, it represents the inimitable energy of the Milanese workers.
