From the spanish domination to the Resugence

In the 1713 Milan passes from the Spanish to the Austrians of the House of Habsburg.
After a parenthesis with Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoia (1734 - 1748) Milan again returns in the hands of the Austrians. The government of the empress Maria Teresa of Austria, and of successor, her child Joseph II, gave start to a long period of reforms that benefits brought to the city.
The face of the city rejuvenated, the architecture transformed it and the ancient medieval little streets, left the place to more comforting district. Also the education was modernized with the foundation of new popular schools.

Napoleon I Bonaparte
In the 1796 Napoleon Bonaparte hunted the Austrians and got the power in Milan. The city became capital of the Cisalpine Repubblic (1797) and then, with the proclamation of Bonaparte emperor with the title of Napoleone I, capital of the Kingdom of Italy in 1805.In 1814 the Kingdom fell and, with Vienna Congress (1815), the Austrians got back the government of the Milanese territory.
Under such dominion, any preceding autonomy ended and one period of political oppression and economic exploitation had beginning. This situation brought a part of the middle class and theintellectuality to foment the conspiracy. They created so the "secret society" among which the Carboneri to which many intellectuals among which Pietro Maroncelli to Silvio Pellico (author de " Her my jails", work that resulted for most harmful Austria of a lost war), as well as the count Fred Confalonieri, made part.

LThe spirit of independence of the Carbonari, brought after by Joseph Mazzini, it flowed in the "Five Days in Milan", from 18 to 22 March 1848, after which the Austrians and the captain Radetzky went away defeated.
